Anyone who loves animals would be concerned about the circumstances leading to Eight Belles death. Saez began whipping Eight Belles mercilessly right around the time she jerked her head sharply and then began moving toward the right. Why did Ramon Dominguez abandon Eight Belles before the Derby? And why did Jones settle for a relatively amateur rider? Why did Jones say that if Eight Belles came back to the barn that day at all, then everyone would have had a good day?

In hopes of preventing future catastrophes like that of Eight Belles, Barbaro, George Washington, Ruffian, and the list goes on, you might reconsider thanking the fringe lunatics for caring enough about animals to rise to the occasion, challenging the brutal industry of horse racing and demanding answers otherwise overlooked by the mob that accepts whatever is handed them as the truth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21166659.post-1707497480924579532008-05-07T11:20:00.000-04:002008-05-07T11:20:00.000-04:00The problem isn't with Dutrow giving his horses Wi...The problem isn't with Dutrow giving his horses Winstrol -- it's the illegal levels of Lasix, Clenbuterol, Phenylbutazone and Oxyphenbutazone -- and that's what some of his suspensions were for.

This guy didn't wake up and decide to race clean overnight.Michaelhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06801414754458604594noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21166659.post-44916710505544921452008-05-07T10:08:00.000-04:002008-05-07T10:08:00.000-04:001) steroids aren't illegal yet and Dutrow admits g...1) steroids aren't illegal yet and Dutrow admits giving Winstrol to all of his horses monthly; 2) Jones should make his veterinarian bills public for Eight BellesAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21166659.post-48044798545381392862008-05-07T08:39:00.000-04:002008-05-07T08:39:00.000-04:00While I think it can be only good for racing that ...While I think it can be only good for racing that the results of such a test are released (and probably should become standard practice), it is outrageous that the shrill cries of the uninformed lunatic fringe are putting this sort of pressure on Saez/Jones/Porter. The power of the mob hasn't changed much since Julius Caesar, and if PETA has its way, the three of them will end up in jail.Teresahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03118955760148482020noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-21166659.post-73291756414416183972008-05-07T02:19:00.000-04:002008-05-07T02:19:00.000-04:00I hadn't realized that it was all that uncommon fo...I hadn't realized that it was all that uncommon for Thoroughbreds to stand 16.2 and above and that a tall horse was cause for steroid accusations. Unless they're saying a 17-ish *filly* is the problem. My experience has been that they are generally more gracile, but that it's nowhere near the rule.

Thinking back, the majority of the Thoroughbreds that I've ridden were on the tall end of the scale ... I actually considered mine to be kind of smallish at 15.3.Nelliehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11918061763943119268noreply@blogger.com
