No workouts today from any Derby contenders, and there was a brief scare when a non-Derby or Oaks contender got loose on the track and after faking out an outrider dove off the track and ran into the barn area. The horse was finally rounded up unharmed, but with all the added people around I think we're pretty lucky that someone didn't get hurt.
Buttons of all the Derby contenders were being passed out on the backside today, they will be sold for $1 both at the track and tonight on 4th Street during the Post Position Draw. I picked up a Pyro and Colonel John button.
I spoke to several trainers and will write posts on those conversations shortly. In particular I asked Larry Jones about Rick Dutrow's claim that there is no filly in the world that can beat Big Brown -- stay tuned.
Also, I will blog the results of The Derby post draw order, which should come out shortly...
