Sunday Morning Workout Notes

There was a flurry of activity on the track this morning with workouts from Derby contenders Adriano, Colonel John, Court Vision, Eight Belles, and Proud Spell in addition to other horses like Pyro, Smooth Air, Bob Black Jack, Visionaire and Z Humor either galloping or trotting over the Churchill track.

The obvious buzz of the morning was about Colonel John's bullet work (man did he look good) and the decision that Proud Spell will go in Oaks instead of the Derby, opening up a spot for the speedy Bob Black Jack and leaving Denis of Cork as the 21st horse on the graded stakes earnings list. Also from the way Larry Jones and Rick Porter were talking, it's looking more and more like Eight Belles is being pointed toward the Derby baring a far outside post position (more on that later).

Adriano did not look particularly impressive and never passed the horse that he was working with in company, and Court Vision almost went unnoticed, although the horse did look comfortable over the track.

This morning I spoke with the connections for Eight Belles, Proud Spell and Colonel John and will post updates about each of those conversations (as well as other observations) throughout the day.

Workout times

Colonel John :57 4/5
Eight Belles :58 1/5
Proud Spell :58 2/5
Adriano 1:00 4/5
Court Vision 1:00 4/5
