Monday morning didn't end up being as crazy as I thought it would be despite seeing works from Pyro, Bob Black Jack, Denis of Court, Z Fortune, Visionaire and Big Truck. The backside didn't seem quite as busy as I remember it last year on Monday, also there were no timed workouts from any Oaks contenders.
This morning we also saw gallops or jogs from Anak Nakal, Behindatthebar, Cool Coal Man, Gayego, Recapturetheglory and Tale of Ekati. This was the second day that Smooth Air took to the track after the news earlier in the week that he spiked a fever -- he went twice around the track, although I don't think the colt looks particularly impressive.
Back to the timed works, Big Truck worked a bullet over four furlongs, which was somewhat surprising, and Pyro's work at five furlongs was a typical Steve Asmussen race-week work (that is, it looks like it was exactly what the horse needed without doing too much).
More backside interviews from trainers will follow.
4 Furlongs
Visionaire :48.4
Denis of Cork :48.6
Bob Black Jack :48.6
Pyro 49.8
Z Fortune :51
5 Furlongs
Big Truck 59.4
