Barclay Tagg's Big Truck (man that's a funny phrase) posted a sharp five furlong workout in 59.40 today, the fasted of 22 to go at that distance. That being said, all of the other Derby contenders went four furlongs this morning.
Still, a bullet is a bullet, and the horse posted splits in :11.80, 23.60, 34.60 and 46.60, he galloped out to six furlongs in 1:14.
"He did everything right, he likes the surface," Tagg said after the work.
This quick work may prove that he's another colt with a race that you can draw a line through thanks to a probable dislike of synthetic surfaces. He won the Tampba Bay Derby (GIII) on conventional dirt in February, but then finished 11th in the Blue Grass Stakes on Polytrack.
"He really went well," exercise rder Kristen Troxell said. "He really likes this track more than (Polytrack)." Jockey Javier Catellano will be aboard Big Truck on Saturday.
Tagg sends his other Derby contender Tale of Ekati tomorrow.
