Todd Pletcher announced through a press release today that Padua Stable's Behindatthebar will not go in the Derby and will instead point to the Preakness Stakes.
"I spoke with (owners) Satish and Sasah Sanan this morning and we all thought 16-days between races two races was a lot of pressure to put on the horse," Pletcher said. "If he'd gone to the Derby it would have been three races in 30 days."
This will open up a spot for trainer David Carroll's Denis of Cork, making Dale Romans' Halo Najib the horse that is now sitting on the bubble. Short of a (knock on wood) injury or illness, it looks like the field is set.
Pletcher and his two remaining Derby contenders, Monba and Cowboy Cal, arrive from Keeneland on Wednesday.
