I really don't like the news that The Breeders' Cup Distaff has been renamed "The Ladies' Classic". Perhaps The Sprint should be renamed: "The Really Short Race..."
I agree with Jessica, and hope that the Friday tie-ins focus on more than women's health issues... although The Juvenile Fillies sponsored by Garadsil would be pretty awesome. If that is the case, I think that we should focus on prostate and other man cancers on Saturday now...
Other than the name change for the Distaff, I guess my only two concerns are that 1) I'll have to take off work to follow my favorite division (F&M Turf) and 2) I'll need to factor in the Dirt Marathon and Dirt Mile in Saturday's Pick 4s now. Boo.
[**Update: The more I think about it, the more I hate the name. Maybe if it was the "Filly & Mare Classic," I mean, they're not even ladies. Anyway, didn't most University Sports Information Departments move from "Ladies" to "Women's" when talking about sports teams anyway? I know we stoped calling the women's basketball team the "Lady Cards" when I was editing U of L's student newspaper... ]

Here's a thought: Have Hillary Clinton call the races on Ladies Day. She figures to have much more time on her hands then, and she probably was a regular at Oaklawn Park with Bill and Bill's mom when the latter was a regular at the track.
I hate the name change to "Ladies." It conjures images of "little blue hairs" sitting around sipping tea all "prim and proper" and I'm sorry but even as a member of the female gender I bristle at the name. Under today's "equal opportunity" society, females are and can be as big, tough and competative as the boys. Look at Rags to Riches or some of the other great race fillies and mares throughout time. If this is an attempt to encourage more women to the track, I'm sorry it doesn't do it for me!
Sponsored by Gardisil - LOL I can just see the Breeders Cup Classic Sponsored by Viagra next!
Without missing a beat, my wife said that a Viagra sponsorship would be better suited for the Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth.
