Remember this name: Casino Drive

In the post race coverage, an ABC pundit suggested that Rags to Riches is the most valuable filly in the country right now. He may be right, but if looking for the most valuable mare, look no further than 11-year old Better than Honour who has produced two Belmont Stakes winners in a row.

After foaling Belmont winners Jazil and Rags to Riches, the mare was sent to Mineshaft (as son of A.P. Indy) and in 2005 foaled Casino Drive. My research shows no public workout tabs for the colt. Before you do anything else, add this 2-year old colt to your watch list (looking for this colt, I admit, was my wife's idea).

The next two breeding seasons, Better than Honour was sent to Giants Causeway, and both the yearling colt from 2006 and weanling colt from 2007 are unnamed, it will be interesting to watch for them too.

As a side, the post from last month where I played matchmaker for Rags to Riches just became a lot more fun.

Casino Drive was bought by Japanese interests and will most likely race there.

As someone already said, Japanese interests purchased Casino Drive, and the colt has in fact already shipped to Japan.

The yearling colt out of Better Than Honour is in Ireland, so it might not be until 2009 that we see her next progeny in America

It will be interesting to see if there is any effort to repatriate Casino Drive. It wouldn't be the first time that a Japanese owned horse raced over here (see Indy, A.P).

The colt sold for $950,000, second highest among the Mineshafts last year, so he definitely isn't some throw away.

By the way, someone posted a photo at pedigreequery.com. Looks like a 2yo photo. Another rangy chestnut.
